What I found..

In the fashion industry, the term “extended sizes” is reserved for apparel that exceeds an XL. While it can be a long, frustrating process to search for these limited items - either at a brick and mortar location or even online - success is often next to impossible when it comes to outdoor apparel for winter mountain sports. If a person is lucky enough to find the rare piece of functional clothing that fits well, there are oftentimes extremely limited options in color, style, and overall performance. While brands in the outdoor fashion industry place an emphasis throughout multiple platforms on sponsoring elite athletes that are at the top of their respective sports, they fail to adequately represent larger body types and sizes, effectively ignoring a significant portion of consumers.

— outdoor fashion industry brands are missing a huge market of consumers..

What I did..

It is nearly impossible to come across larger, “extended” sizes of outerwear from existing brands that are stylish, fit well, and just as functional. Extended sizes that do exist suffer in their technicality and are limited in the range of freedoms that afford a piece the ability to express one’s creativity through the sport. Spar promotes body inclusivity by providing extended sizes of gear that is functional, high quality, and stylish.

— don’t let others decide what you can or cannot wear or do!!

Conceptual Thinking —

All bodies are connected by the earth..

The concept throughout this project emphasizes the layers of the earth and the formation of mountains. Spar encourages the notion that it’s time for people to do what they love and to embrace their inner selves, their inner layers. People that wear larger sizes should be afforded the same privilege to wear clothing that makes a statement and expresses their own unique interests. There’s no more hiding— it's time to rip those layers off and flip the ski industry upside down.
